Four houses. Eight cooks. Ten themes. One paper plate.
Inspired by The Great British Bake Off (which I have only just watched), boredom, and a slew of therapists who encouraged us to focus our energy on something—anything—the Urban Family Bake Off was born.
Once upon a time in Brooklyn, a team of young (well, we were young) urbanites met weekly for dinner. The dinners ranged from boeuf bourguignon to takeout sushi and generally ended with empty bottles, and on the best nights, cake.
This urban family lives in the same borough, some in the same neighborhood, some on the same block—but the last dinner was in March 2020.
So, here we are a year later. Reunited in memory, in food, and in the spirit of gathering to create something delicious, to make the world seem a bit less bleak.
Follow along to see who’s awarded the prize paper plate at the end. That’s it. That’s the only prize.
